Nerdy Easter Roundup

Growing up I never got elaborate Easter baskets.  That’s because I grew up in a super Catholic family, and my mom felt like giving us a ton of candy on Easter would distract us from the fact that Christ Has Risen.  (To be honest, I kind of get her point.  Easter is the most important Christian holiday, and unlike Christmas, I never really understood its secular celebration.)  Bottom line, all my friends got a crap ton of candy, toys, and VHS tapes on Easter.  I got a chocolate bar, a packet of jelly beans, and a rosary.

So!  I was pretty psyched when my boyfriend and I started exchanging Easter baskets as adults.  I finally all the candy and awesome treats I always wanted.  This is a picture of the amazing robot baskets  we exchanged one year:

We got these felt baskets at Target, and they’re so cute and adorable and I love them so much.

Sadly, I don’t think Target sells the robot baskets anymore, and I had a really hard time finding nerdy Easter baskets, but I still found a few offerings that will help make your Easter a little geekier.

Chocolate Zombie Bunny from ThinkGeek reminds me of another famous malicious bunny from Monty Python

Harry Potter candy is necessary for any nerdy bouquet of sweets.  Of course, you can buy the official Chocolate Frogs, but as a follower of the HP Alliance, I have to put out the disclaimer that it’s not officially fair trade chocolate, and the HPA has an amazing campaign around trying to make Warner Brothers use officially fair trade chocolate, including releasing their own organic fair trade chocolate frogs.  I’ve had the opportunity to try these at HP events, and they are really well done, much better than the official ones, but unfortunately they’re not currently available for purchase online.

Regular jelly beans are so boring, add an element of suspense to your Easter with Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans

Officially licensed Marvel Easter Eggs filled with candy.

Dinosaur head Easter eggs filled with candy.  Really disappointed that these aren’t dinosaur eggs filled with baby dinosaur candy.

Official Avengers Easter egg decorating kit, because nothing says “spring” and “pivotal event in a major world religion”  like a Black Widow sticker on an egg.

If you are artsy and inspired enough, you can also create nerdy Easter eggs!  I tried this once a few years ago, and it didn’t really work…at all.

So, this was supposed to be a Harry Potter egg.  It is balding and has no glasses.  But it has a scribble scar.  So…

Here are some nerdy Easter eggs that are far more amazing:

Stormtrooper Easter Eggs & Star Trek Easter Eggs (source)

Potter Puppet Pals inspired Easter Eggs (source)

So see, you really can add nerdy inspiration to any holiday!

Now, does anyone have ideas for a nerdy Passover?
